QUESTION: At what point should a priest realize that a case should be sent to the diocese? How does the priest know when this occurs?
How does the priest handle people who are dealing with infestation, vexation and obsession?
ANSWER: A priest who has someone come to him claiming to be dealing with infestation should go and bless the location. If it is an item,
such as a ouija board, it should be blessed with holy water and destroyed. Cases of vexation and obsession should be first addressed by the
sacramental life of the Church- confession and anointing. The priest could also pray with the person and bless them and even encourage them
to address with their doctor any possible physical or psychological causes for their issues. Only after these means have been exhausted
should a priest refer a person to the diocese. Additionally, anything short of possession the priest is able to handle without the diocese.
